We continue to support remote, rural and smaller communities, including Tribal Nations, as they begin their long-term energy planning. In early February, we helped to convene community members from the Nooksack Indian Tribe for a 3-day energy planning workshop, facilitated by Indigenous Collaboration. As a result, the Nooksack community formed teams, created action plans and have in-hand specific next steps for their specific clean energy journey. Our team found this training to be a powerful reminder that with time to slow down, build trust and learn from one another, meaningful community engagement occurs.
This month we kicked off Energize Shoreline, a new ductless heat pump pilot program with the City of Shoreline. This program will use direct input from historically marginalized communities to inform the program’s structure and incentives. In partnership with Gensco and local installer partners, the program will provide fully subsidized heat pump installations for at least five low-income residents and partially subsidized heat pump installations for another twenty homes.
