Dear Spark Northwest Policy List Members,
We are thrilled to share that Senate Bill 6200 (now “Engrossed Substitute Senate Bill” or ESSB 6200), which many of you have previously supported, is up for its final public hearing on Monday, 2/23 in the Washington House Housing Committee. This bill passed the Senate with bipartisan support—now it’s time for the final push.
As you may know, SB 6200 gives tenants the right to install and use portable cooling devices—which will save hundreds of lives and prevent avoidable illnesses the next time extreme heat strikes. The latest version also specially designates “saddle” or “u-shaped” devices as a fully unrestricted category of device, which should be a boon to folks looking to deploy saddle heat pumps in the near future.
