This week in Olympia

This week we testified in support of two bills to expand equitable solar deployment in Washington. Pictured above are the policy team from Spark Northwest, Olympia Community Solar and Washington Solar Energy Industries Association, ready to make change happen.

We are excited about the opportunities these bills offer for people in Washington. The Solar Energy Resiliency Act (HB 1427) ensures that new solar projects get credit for the extra energy they produce, and Fair Access to Community Solar (HB 1509) makes it easier for groups of people to share benefits of solar even if they can’t install panels on their homes.

We’re sending a big shout-out to two of Washington’s climate champions, Representatives Sharlett Mena (D-29) and David Hackney (D-11). We are grateful for their leadership on these bills!

Advocacy Tactic: Signing In

Fun Fact!

Did you know that Former President Jimmy Carter had 32 solar panels installed on the White House in 1979 – before some of our staff were born! Thankfully the price of solar has fallen dramatically since Carter’s time, but we still want to see more panels on the White House.
