A Message to Spark Northwest Supporters:

First and foremost, we hope you are staying safe and healthy.

Feeling lucky to be working from home

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed daily life for billions of people across the globe and Spark Northwest is no exception. We feel grateful that we are able to continue our work remotely to promote a just transition to clean energy in the Pacific Northwest. At the same time, we are acutely aware that difficult circumstances have a disproportionate impact on those with fewest resources.

In the short-term, Spark Northwest is supporting our partners to prevent power shutoffs for people in financial distress and to enhance energy assistance programs. We recently advocated for increased federal funding for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, which was included in the first emergency relief act. We are also promoting state action in Oregon and Washington to ensure that vulnerable households are able to keep power and heat on while sheltering at home. For more ways to get involved, this resource from Climate Alliance for Jobs and Clean Energy is a helpful guide.

In the long-term, Spark Northwest is committed to building more resilient communities. Energy independence and the economic benefits of clean energy can alleviate financial burdens. And building renewable energy projects creates local jobs to spark economic recovery in hard-hit neighborhoods. We hope you are with us in solidarity. The clean energy future is closer than ever, and it is Spark Northwest’s mission to make sure no one gets left behind.

We are eager to hear from you during this time. If you can financially support our work or are interested in working together to build affordable clean energy in your area, please let us know. Stay safe, stay healthy, and let’s move forward in hope.

Sincerely,

Andrea Axel
