Founded in 2001 as Northwest Sustainable Energy for Economic Development (Northwest SEED), we began by focusing on local economic development opportunities through small-scale wind energy development. We demonstrated that local control and ownership of homegrown energy resources was possible, rather than consolidating and exporting the energy benefits for broader use. We later expanded to provide low-cost energy efficiency solutions, and to deliver solar energy programs to speed neighborhood adoption, through programs like Solarize Northwest.

In 2017, we re-branded to Spark Northwest. Our new name and the bright green logo better reflects our vision to expand affordable, locally-controlled clean energy throughout the region, and doubles down on our longstanding commitment to help communities reduce their dependency on high-carbon fuels. With Spark Northwest, we are investing further in these commitments, broadening our reach, and asking our communities to engage in sparking global change through local action. Today, we provide three core services for the communities in the Pacific Northwest: 1) leadership on community energy projects; 2) advocacy for policy change; and 3) outreach and education.
