Founded in 2001 as Northwest SEED, we originally focused on creating local economic development opportunities through wind energy development. We demonstrated that local control and ownership of homegrown energy resources was possible, rather than consolidating and exporting the energy benefits for broader use. We later expanded to provide low-cost energy conservation solutions, and to deliver solar energy programs to speed neighborhood adoption, through programs like Solarize Northwest. To date, Solarize Northwest has educated over 4,000 citizens and brought solar to 950 families and counting.

In 2017, we re-branded to Spark Northwest. This new name, and its accompanying bright green spark logo, better reflects our vision to expand affordable, locally-controlled clean energy throughout the region, and doubles down on our longstanding commitment to help communities reduce their dependency on high-carbon fuels. Spark Northwest is not a departure from Northwest SEED; rather it is a deepening of our commitment to help communities reduce their reliance on high-carbon fuels.

With Spark Northwest, we are investing further in these commitments, broadening our reach, and asking our communities to engage in sparking global change through local action.
